I have just sent the following letter to the Countryside
Service of Worcestershire County Council:
Re.:
Public Footpath 553 – Brace’s Leigh
Dear Sirs,
Whilst out walking last weekend from Bransford to Malvern Link I came
across a section of the Public Foothpath as per the enclosed map ( A – B
) which had no signs or markers whatsoever pointing out the route of the
Public Foothpath (553)
As you can see from the map the actual route crosses Private Property
and goes past the boundary fences of two private houses. The path
through Brace’s Leigh Farm leads through gated driveways, yet nowhere
along this route is a single marker. When I asked the owner of one of
the cottages, marked X, I got the rather sarcastic response ‘
as you found your way to here you
may as well carry on’ followed by a ‘I
don’t know anything about this’ when I pointed out that the footpath
was marked on my map and that I was using a GPS.
It appears, that the signs have been deliberately removed as the owner
of the house marked X was clearly surprised and startled that we
actually found our way.
I would appreciate it if you could look into this matter as I feel that
the clear and precise marking of a Public Footpath is more important if
this footpath crosses private property as any inexperienced walker or
map reader could quite easily loose his way and finish up trespassing
which, in turn, could lead to disputes and arguments with the land
owners.
