We were
sent a parcel recently which was handled by Parcel Force. Nobody was in
when it arrived so they left a card informing us that it had been taken
to the Post Office awaiting our collection.
We were not happy with the way this delivery was handled and we wrote
them the following letter which is self explanatory:
I just had a
delivery from Coopers in Great Yarmouth dispatched to me via Parcel Force
as per the enclosed details.
Nobody was in when
the parcel arrived and, consequently, you left me a card stating that
the parcel had been taken to the Post Office in Dudley High Street from
where it could be collected upon production of identification.
The next day I went
there, it is virtually impossible to park near the Post Office, left my
car on double yellow lines and dashed in to collect the parcel.
I was faced with a
queue of about 50 people with one open counter. Two Asian guys stood by
the food counter and I asked them if they could assist me in collecting
my parcel but they just shrugged their shoulders and told me I had to
wait in that queue.
When someone came
out and announced that they had been waiting in that queue for nearly an
hour I left again rather than risk getting booked for parking on double
yellow lines.
Next day, later in
the afternoon I went back again, this time there was no queue and
produced my ID which showed my name and my picture to collect the
parcel. This was refused as my ID did not show my address, even my
passport does not show this, and when I questioned this they said that
unless I can prove that I live at the address on the package they would
not hand over the parcel.
Naturally I argued with them as
to why an ID with my picture and my name should not be sufficient but
they were adamant that I might have found this ID somewhere in the
street. Just imagine the logic of this argument that I would walk the
streets and find an ID which happens to show my name and my picture.
Doesn’t this just show the intelligence and intellect of the people who
run Post Offices these days.
Needless to say that
I had to go back home once again to find out an invoice addressed to me
which, upon the third attempt was then accepted and the parcel ( with
contents worth about £12.00 ) was finally handed over.
The card you left
did not say I had to provide prove of my address, it merely stated I had
to provide Proof of Identification, you took the parcel to a
Post Office which has no parking
facilities nearby and cannot cope with the number of customers
and clearly this is not a
suitable alternative place to ask your customer to collect their parcels
from.
To
summarise
this rather lengthy story I would like to say that there a FOUR Post
Offices (all with easy access parking) nearer to me than the one in
Dudley High Street and, consequently, if this is the service I can
expect from Parcelforce I will have no other option but to state on all
future orders that I cannot and will not accept another any deliveries
by Parcelforce.
