An advertisement placed by Lidl in the Daily Mirror on October 2nd for men's shoes stated that they were leather uppers and leather foot bed. In fact the uppers are plastic and they should be reported to trading standards office for misleading information. As these shoes were priced at only г5.99 it raised my suspicions and I drove a return trip of 20 miles to examine these myself and they were definitely plastic uppers. Can you contact them for an explanation?. We faxed a copy of this e-mail to Lidl asking them for their explanation and comment. They came back quite promptly requesting contact details of Mr. Denby advising us that they would contact Mr. Denby direct with the outcome of their investigation. We have asked them to provide us with a copy of their report and we have also asked Mr. Denby to let us know what Lidl have said in response to his complaint. Mr. Denby has just sent us the following e-mail enclosing the reply from Lidl: Sent: 17 October 2003

Copy of the e-mail from Lidl [received from Mr. Denby, not Lidl who regretfully ignored our request for a copy] Subject: Men's Shoes Dear Mr Denby I am writing further to a complaint you have logged on The Complaint Shop website regarding Men's Shoes for г 5.99 which were on sale in our stores recently. You were concerned that the shoes, which were advertised as Leather uppers and PU soles, were in fact plastic uppers. After fully investigating the matter with our suppliers and inspecting various samples of the shoes (all of which were Leather uppers as advertised), we have come to the conclusion that the shoes were in fact Leather uppers with PU soles as advertised and not Plastic uppers as indicated by you. We are however more than happy to inspect the particular pair of shoes from which you have drawn your opinion. Please feel free to either send them directly to myself at the address below or hand them into one of our stores clearly stating that they have to be sent to myself at the address below. I hope that the above explanation proves to be satisfactory and would like to assure you of our best intentions at all times.
