Whilst walking from Droitwich to Worcester along the disused Droitwich Canal I found my way blocked onto Hawford Lock Lane. All signs relating to the public footpath, which is clearly marked on all ordnance survey maps and on the councils own website have been removed at a point where the path crosses the canal and the exit onto Hawford Lock lane has been obstructed with signs being erected claiming that you are entering private land if you continue. Hawford Lock Lane on the other side has been gated and sign posted 'private road' such preventing walkers to walk down the lane to pick up the path from the other side at Hawford Lock. I have passed this matter to the Countryside Service at Worcestershire County Council and I have asked them to investigate this violation of public right of access and to let me know what they intend to do about it. I had an excellent reply in less then 6 days confirming receipt of my complaint Update 22/04/2003 As I have not heard from the Council since, I have just sent an e-mail to the Area Countryside Access Officer [ Amanda Hill] requesting further information and an update. Update 16/05/2003 I had no reply to my email and I have just sent another letter to Amanda Hill requesting a reply - It looks like the initial excellent response may have been a fluke - Lets wait and see! Update 22/05/2003 I have just received an e-mail from a Hazel Rowden informing me that the footpath is now open, waymarked and walkable all the way and that further work is being done to improve the line and condition of this path - They are efficient after all - Well done |
