Grrrrrrrrrrr !!!!!!!! I have had a contract phone with Orange for the past 4 years. Orange promise that they will match ANY other UK tariff as long as it isn't a promotion or limited term offer. Last year I changed my tariff to one which gave me 400 anytime minutes to any mobile network or landline and cost £45 a month. (This was the equivalent of an "O2" tariff) I recently saw the new "3" tariffs and 'phone deals. They offer a new video phone, 750 anytime to any network or UK landline for £35 monthly and no charge for the 'phone. I rang Orange to ask if they can match the deal. Orange tell me they consider it a gimmick and a promotion. "3" tell me it is their most popular, but very permanent, tariff. It has been the same since "3" started trading a few years ago. I rang Orange and insisted that they matched the tariff in accordance with the contract they had with me. I was passed from pillar to post, from sales to legal services, contracts to complaints. I was on the phone for over 2 hours and 22 minutes in total whilst they fannied around. I was eventually told that it was Orange policy not to match the "3" tariff and that was their final word. I asked to cancel my contract with Orange contract and gave them 30 days notice. I asked for a PAC code so I could take my number across to "3". They told me they would call me back with it later that day. An hour later I got a call from Orange asking why I was leaving them. I explained to the very nice lady. She asked if I was absolutely certain and I said yes. I told her I was going to have words with my local Consumer Protection Dept. (Trading Standards) and the Advertsisng Standards Authority as I thought that Orange were misleading people in their Orange Value Promise contract. She immediately said, "I've actually got some good news for you. I can offer you the "3" tariff. 750 minutes, cross network anytime for £35 a month." I asked why the sudden change of heart and she told me that they always have been able to but Orange policy is to tell customers they can't match "3" and persuade them to transfer to one of the other tariffs. The cheapest alternative tariff which gives 750 minutes is £75 monthly! I did change but felt REALLY pi**ed off that Orange had so messed me about. It just wasn't necessary and all it has succeeded in doing is making me think what a bunch of dishonest sales people and sales managers they employ. At the same time I upgraded my 'phone and paid them £49.99 for a new Motorola v600. The moral is, "Don't believe it when Orange say they can't match "3" tariffs". |

There clearly is not much more we can say except never take
never for an answer. Stick to your guns, it will pay off in the end
and if they don't agree with you do what Jim did
Tell them to stick it somewhere and go elsewhere
