This is a warning to people looking to book a villa or holiday home in Spain.
We rented a house in Spain with a company called Chilled lemon (chilledlemon.com). The property was described as a former Bodega with spiral staircase wood burning stove, pool & herb garden. We paid £550 (plus £50 damages deposit) for one week. When we arrived it lwas located up a perilously steep dirt track. The property was in a filthy condition, the bathroom was squalid, the tiny kitchen absolutely disgusting and crawling with insects. There was no glass in the windows, no air conditioning. The house was touted as sleeping six, and although there were three double beds upstairs, the ground floor was tiny. I really cannot describe how appalling this property was. We left the following morning, and found other accommodation. We did not receive any response or apology from the owners. Weeks later our £50 deposit was returned, No chance of a refund. It wasn't ABTA bonded so there's nothing we can do. Jenny

We suggested to Jenny that she could issue a Default Summons in the County Courts against Chilled Lemon who are a UK registered Limited Company but Jenny told us that unfortunately they did not take any pictures or gather enough evidence to prove their point.

Thanks very much for this advice. Had we been wiser we would have taken photographs, but to be honest we were so appalled at the standard that we left as soon as we could. We thought the company would be decent enough to refund us for the nights we didn't stay. Especially since we had to go to the trouble of paying for and finding other accommodation at short notice. We did send a detailed e-mail to them but they said they 'never got it'(?!) As long as other people don't get taken in, then at least it wouldn't be a complete waste of money.
