The complainant was given a Bush Deep Fat Fryer as a present some 6 month ago. During use a few weeks back, one of the side handles dropped off, the Fryer consequently fell on the floor and hot fat splashed all over the floor. In addition, the stainless steel body which holds the basket is so sharp that it literally cuts your hand when cleaning it. When she tried to claim under the terms of the guarantee she found that the guarantee which came with the Fryer does not list a manufacturers or importers name. It simply states that the faulty appliance should be taken back to the dealer from where it was purchased. As it was a present, she does not know the retailer it came from and checks to locate the makers or importers have proved inconclusive. The matter has been passed to Dudley Trading Standards on the 21/02/2003 for their comments and advise and this page will be updated upon receipt of their response. I anybody knows the importer, manufacturer or a retailer, who stocks this product, then please contact us and let us know. Update 15/03/2003 Trading Standards in Dudley have not had the courtesy to confirm receipt of our letter. Update 24/03/2003 Trading Standards have now phoned and agreed in principle that the Fryer might be faulty but, apparently, the omission of the address of the importer or manufacturer is not illegal in itself. Due to the fact that the complainant lives in Shropshire, they have requested that we pass this matter to the Trading Standards Department in Shrewsbury, which we have now done. As we never heard from Mrs. Smith or the Trading Standards Office we assume that the complaint has now been settled.
